Poi Workshop with Zan Moore on Sunday, February 10th for the Gem Show

Zan Moore from The Instruments of the Now! is coming to Tucson for the Gem Show. You may also know him from his instructional poi DVD known as Encyclo-poi-dia. He is truly amazing and I am pleased to announce that he will be offering a workshop while in town. I have learned that there are also a few other amazingly talented spinners coming as well. Zan will be teaching a 90 minute intermediate level poi class for $25. There will be an open jam session for 1 hour following the workshop. The cost for the Open Spin is $5, but it is optional if you attended the workshop.

Zan started performing in South America on tour with his brother Noah, and continues to burn with the same inspired passion as in the beginning. His training has led him far and wide, through a dozen countries and across the disciplines of spinning, dance, juggling, music, yoga, circus, martial arts, and acrobatics. Each of his unique performances offer unforgettable class, style, and grace!

Recently Zan and his brother Noah teamed together to produce the extremely informative and innovative Encyclo-poi-dia DVD. This DVD will expand your mind and challenge all poi spinners "to go where no video has gone before". This DVD was created for the Advanced Beginner and it covers 15 different move groups and many variations in two 50 minute segments. That is two DVDs combined into one! This long staff is really the best I have seen to use as a fire contact staff! The KEVLAR ® wicking is extremely high quality and tightly woven for an exceptionally long burn time. Grip material covers half of the long staff, providing plenty of surface area for contact staff juggling. While SFC Contact Staves are designed with the contact “staffer” in mind, these staves are also excellent for beginners. The 7/8 inch aluminum body is reinforced at the ends by a wooden dowel, which has the additional effect of reducing the amount of heat that travels to the center of the long staff so that the shaft does not get too hot to juggle. This is a crucial addition to the creation of the contact staff for anyone interested in spinning for long periods of time! The fire contact staves come in 2 sizes; 4 ft 8 inches and 5 ft.

FireGrace Spinning Fire and David Wolfe’s Raw Food Retreat in May 2006

This video captures me spinning fire in front of an Olympic size hot water tub at the Eden Hot Springs in southern Arizona. I am dancing with fire poi, long staff, and fire baton. The camera is pretty unsteady so I apologize for that, but it is still worth the watch! Please have patience and enjoy the fire dance.

This is probably one of my most polished fire spinning videos thanks to my friend Synge and all of his wonderful video editing skills. This video captures me spinning fire poi, long staff, one baton, two batons, and juggling three batons. The only prop I am not using is fire fans but you still get the full effect from watching this video. ENJOY!

This footage of me fire spinning pregnant was filmed when I was about 7 and 1/2 months along. I am spinning fire poi, long staff, baton and also fire fans. The music was chosen to resemble a lullaby, although there was one song chosen to remind us what the youth today offer our changing world.

A pregnant fire dancing video was an idea that I had as soon as I discovered that I was pregnant, and I am so grateful that it manifested for the entire world to see. I hope that this video offers women the inspiration to continue their art during pregnancy and after childbirth. I also hope that it empowers you to realize your true beauty and the goddess energy that flows through you during this amazing transformation!

If you are pregnant and would like to learn how to spin fire, even if you have never attempted such an art before, I would highly recommend it. The art of fire dancing is extremely exhilarating by itself, let alone when you are holding life inside of you. Just imagine it for a second... your beautiful body learning to overcome your biggest fears and learning to release all of your pain and struggles that have burdened you over your lifetime. Fire can be scary because it is known for its extremely destructive and dangerous characteristics. However if you can be one with the flame and learn to dance with the fire as it is spinning and orbiting around your body, then the experience of fire spinning can be very cleansing. Although fire is known to bring death and destruction, it also paves the way for new life and a new beginning. It also brings to the surface the very childlike nature that will allow to become the wonderful and understanding parent that you hope to be!

I can teach you to spin fire during this beautiful time of your life, or I can offer you a ceremonial fire dance to pave the way for a fresh start for you and yours. This goes for birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, graduation, solstice parties, or any other reason to gather together and celebrate as well.

Fire Spinning Classes in Tucson, AZ

The DanceLoft is hosting Michelle Baas, FireGrace to teach fire spinning classes!

Fire poi classes will be held on Sundays from 11am-12pm beginning on January 6th, 2008. This class will emphasize technique, fundamentals, transitions, and body movement to establish the perfect well balanced spinner!

Fire staff classes will be held on Sundays from 12pm-1pm beginning on January 6th, 2008. Plan on learning some extreme body contact juggling!

The classes are $10 if you commit to attending classes ongoing. If you are interested in just trying it out, and are unsure if you will take more than just a few classes then you may pay the drop in rate of $12.

FireGrace Spinning Fire With Long Staff

In this video I am spinning fire with a long staff at David Wolfe's Raw Food Retreat at the Eden Hot Springs in May of 2006. This event was an amazing heart, soul, and mind opening experience. There are more videos of me at this particular event spinning with fire poi, and also with fire batons. I am dancing in front of a historic hotel that is a few hundred years old. So many famous people have stayed the night here and once upon a time the land was owned by The Rolling Stones. There are lots of hot water pools and streams that flow all over the land, including a guitar shaped tub, and a full Olympic size swimming pool (which I am told it is the only hot water pool of its kind across the world). I hope that you are dazzled by the fire dance, and the beautiful live music created by a few of the amazing raw foodist attendees in the audience. If you ever have a chance to attend such an event yourself I highly recommend it!
